here are only a handful of beauty editors but millions of beauty consumers. An Experiment With is our series that puts makeup to the test on real people; different skin colours, different skin types and most importantly different beauty identities.

Legendary beauty founder Bobbi Brown has launched her first makeup collection in five years after leaving her eponymous brand. As a pioneer for wearable makeup that people felt genuinely comfortable wearing, her new brand, Jones Road, is the latest frontier of minimalist, no-makeup makeup.

Encased in endlessly chic but functional packaging, the products are a curated edit of everyday staples. Sold exclusively in the UK on the Jones Road website, the Stack team put Jones Road to the beauty test.

Rhea Cartwright - Beauty Director. She wears The Face Pencil in Shade 14 & 16 under her eyes, Miracle Balm in Bronze and Cool Gloss in Pastel Pink as a cream blusher.

“Jones Road feels like Glossier for grown-ups. While the products lean towards a natural look, the textures are buildable and can easily take you from day to night. If you want coverage from your base products, you may need something else but The Face Pencils are an absolute dream for a skin-like finish and give just the right amount of coverage for me. Multi-functional and best applied with fingers, I've already added all of the base products to my makeup bag!”

Isobel Van Dyke - Editorial Assistant. She wears the Oil Stick and Cool Gloss in Nude Beige

“I’ve been obsessed with highlighter since I was a teenager - so much so that in college they called me ‘moon girl’ due to the OTT brightness of my sheen. The Oil Stick is highlighter without the glitter, for a lightly sweaty glow that gives an overall look of dewy health. The lip colours need a post-application-tissue-bite but are the perfect shades to channel the 90s”

Elshadai Gore - Events and Content Manager. She wears The Best Pencil in Navy and Cool Gloss in Nude Beige as a cream blusher

“I'm partial to a cat-eye, so much so there's always a liquid liner in the office drawer, gym bag and dressing table. At first, I was curious about the whole idea of a blue pencil liner but at swatch I became dubious - least to say I wasn't impressed. But when I applied it to my eyelids, the buildable formula created a bold and striking look! I love that I can intensify the colour with just a few swipes or smudge for a smokey eye. Who doesn't love a product with range? Turn's out Jones Road really did make the best pencil!”

Sasha Mills - Editorial Intern. She wears Miracle Balm is Bronze, Oil Stick, Cool Gloss in Pastel Pink on lips and cheeks and The Best Eyeshadow in Dark Brown.

“As a (very) pale person, I associate bronzer with a powdery, streaky finish that leaves me looking orange and feeling self-conscious, so I've never worn it as a result. The Jones Road bronzer has turned me into a person that wants to wear bronzer - I’m never going back! The texture makes it look just like your skin, but bronzed and glowing. I made my friend let me put it on her so she could appreciate how great it is and she bought it immediately.”

Hannah Connolly - Editorial Assistant. She wears Sparkle Wash in Midas on her eyelids and as a highlighter.

“My go-to when it comes to makeup for a night out is very much the lazy girl approach, meaning I simply top-up what I’ve already got going on. The glitter stick is the perfect way to change a daytime look to something a little more special - smudged into black eyeliner it creates the perfect, sexy pick me up.”
